Dowsing With A Pendulum

Pendulums are popular and easy to use divination tools that are often used by psychics and mediums, as a method of connecting with spirit. A basic pendulum consists of two parts – a weighted ‘stone’ and a chain. Typically the portable pendulum is made from a semi precious stone or crystal, suspended from a silver or metal chain. However, practically any small weighted object can be used, attached to a piece of string, cord or other lengthy material.

Pendulum Origins

Pendulums have been used by many cultures for thousands of years. The oldest recorded pendulum dates back eight thousand years old, and is featured in ancient cave drawings in Algeria. Pendulums were mostly used to predict the future, or to find water.

How Does It Work?

Pendulums work in tandem with human energy and the natural world around you. A pendulum utilises gravity and momentum to respond to the energy of the question the user asks. In a way, the pendulum works like a radio speaker that plays back the energy signals that your body constantly picks up.

Ideally, you want your pendulum to get answers from your Higher Self. When you ask your pendulum a question your Higher Self, or intuition, searches the energy of the data that surrounds you and transmits a response. As you hold the pendulum you are passing energy down your arm, through your wrist and out through the pendulum. It will then begin swinging so that your eyes are able to decipher the answer to the question.

How To Use A Pendulum

A pendulum is easy to use, but does require practice. Prior to use, it is always best to find a quiet place away from noise and disturbances. Relax and focus on your intention, letting go of concerns and worries.

Ideally, you should sit up straight, with feet firmly on the floor. Grasp the top bead or fob, of the pendulum chain, between your thumb and forefinger. You can also grasp anywhere along the chain, as long as you leave at least 2 to 3 inches between your fingers and the weighted stone. Steady your forearm on something solid. The edge of a table will do. Allow the pendulum to dangle freely.

Before asking your questions you need to programme your pendulum’s signals. You only need to do this step once, to establish clear signals for these answers:

  1. Yes
  2. No

You can also find a signal for Maybe (or “I don’t know”).

Common signals are: front to back (like a head nod)
, side-to-side (like a head shaking) clockwise circle
and counterclockwise circle. Practice these pendulum swings until you have clear signals for each of the answers. You may ask the pendulum to determine the signals – front to back for “yes” etc. or you can specify the signals yourself.

Next it is important to verify the signals. Test out the programmed signals by asking a few simple questions that you know the answer to. For instance, you could ask “Is today Monday?”, “Is my name…?” Practice this step until you are confident that your answers are clear and correct. If the signals are not clear reprogramme the pendulum and start again.

When ready, programme your pendulum’s source. This establishes where the answers to your questions are coming from. Say: “I call upon my Higher Self to answer these questions. I seek only absolutely truthful answers, which are aligned with the highest and greatest good for all.” Do this every time you use the pendulum for a Q&A session.

You are now ready to ask your questions.
