The 27 Club has become the term to identify the many celebrities, musicians and actors who have passed at the young age of 27.

Famous people such as Amy Winehouse, Anton Yelchin, Jimmy Hendrix and Kurt Cobain have unfortunately been added to the long list over the years. As for this, many people have become intrigued as to the reasons why the particular age has taken away such talented people, resulting in possible theories.

Below we have outlined just some of the many famous individuals who were taken away from the world too soon, as well as some of the theories behind the 27 Club.

Jimi Hendrix made industry waves in music and has been regarded as the most influential electric guitarist in rock history. Although his mainstream music career only spanned four years, Hendrix became one of the most celebrated and recognised musicians of his time, as well as today.

His incredibly successful life was cut short due to accidental barbiturate-related asphyxia, a drug which has side-effects ranging from mild sedation to total anaesthesia.

In his short-lived musical career, Jimi headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, at the time being the highest paid rock star in the world.

Amy Winehouse was arguably one of the most talented musicians to come out of the 21st century music industry. With her iconic character and style, not only in her appearance but her voice too, the eclectic singer and songwriter used it to her advantage when expressing herself when performing.

Linking and mixing multiple genres into her music is what made Amy Winehouse stand out from the rest. From deep soul to rhythmic blues, there was nothing that she couldn’t achieve with her talent and voice, including collaborations with Tony Bennett.

In 2011, Amy died from alcohol poisoning at her home in Camden, London.

Front man of rock band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was one of two who established the grunge genre in Seattle, U.S alongside Krist Novoselic. Selling over 75 million albums worldwide, Nirvana had made a massive positive dent in the development of the genre during the 20th Century.

However, during the latter part of his life, Kurt had suffered with depression, a heroin addiction and he also struggled with fame and public image during his career. Cobain was found dead in his home in April 1994, believed to be suicide by a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.

Known for his character of Chekov in Star Trek in 2009 and his role as Bobby in the film Hearts in Atlantic in 2001, Anton Yelchin had a promising acting career ahead of him before a freak car accident in June 2016.

The American film and television actor was the son of Viktor and Irina Yelchin, a pair of figure skaters who celebrated 15 years at the Leningrad Ice Ballet.

27 Club theories

Marcus Lowth from Me Time For The Mind, explains: “The roots of the “27-Club” can be traced back to 1930s blues guitarist, Robert Johnson, who legend states had sold his soul to the Devil at the crossroads of 49 and 61 at Clarksdale, Mississippi, in exchange for the guitar prowess he lacked and the eventual fame he received from applying his craft. In 1938 when Johnson died of suspected poisoning at the age of 27, it appeared to some that Satan had come to collect.

“In reality, the numerous deaths of rock stars and musicians at the age of 27 is arguably just a bizarre coincidence. That being said however, the relatively high number of musicians who do die at this particular age, especially when you consider how few people in the world actually are professional musicians, is at least cause for a raised eyebrow or two.”

Marcus concludes: “If, and I must stress the word, if, you subscribe to the ‘27-Club’ theory and are trying to make some kind of sense of it – assuming you have discounted the possibility of the Devil himself running the music business – then the only reasonable conclusion is that there is operating, inside the industry itself, some kind of cult that, for reasons unknown, ensures that certain performers meet an untimely end at 27 years old.”

Over the years, many people have found comfort in the practice of clairvoyant readings with professional psychic readers when reaching out to their loved ones who have passed on earth. If you would like to reach out to someone you know or a famous individual you feel connected to spiritually who has passed at this age, then a clairvoyant reading may be the right decision for you.
